On Saturday, June 17, 2023, we are offering Jeans and Genes Day. This is a variation from our former Genealogy Lock-in. There is both a training and research component. Pre-Registration is preferred for both components. You may attend any or all parts of the day. Our library has not published a flyer with details, yet, but I wanted to let everyone know in advance about the forthcoming program. Here is an agenda for the day.
Training Component
10:00 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Welcome and Introductions
10:15 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Session I: Getting Started
11:15 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Activity
11:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Snacks provided for both session attendees
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Session 2: Vital Records and U.S. Census Records
1:00 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. Relocate to Genealogy and Local History Room
1:15 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. Activity
1:55 p.m. – 02:15 p.m. All participants who do not wish to leave the library need to remain in the Genealogy and Local History Room during this time.
You may bring your own electronic devices.
For those attendees planning on attending the lock-in session and who do not wish to leave the building, you will need to be in the genealogy room by 1:55 p.m. and remain in the Genealogy Room until 2:15 p.m. (Yes, you will truly be locked-in.) This is so there is a distinction between non-participants (regular library patrons) and Genealogy Lock-in participants. If you would prefer, you may exit the building by 2:00 p.m. with the rest of the patrons in the library. However, you will not have the opportunity to regain entrance into the library until 2:30 p.m. No exceptions.
research component
2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Registration for the Lock-in.
Library doors will reopen at 2:30 p.m. on June 17, 2023. All attendees will need to stop by the registration desk to register. Pre-Registration is preferred for this event so we have an idea of how many snacks to provide. We will accept walk-ins on a limited basis.
2:45 p.m. – 2:50 p.m. Welcome and Introductions.
2:50 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. Open research. The entire 2nd floor of the library will be available for researchers. Free copies. Snacks will be provided throughout the afternoon in the Teen Room.
3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Genealogy one-on-ones.
These will be 30-minute sessions with Pam Blaha and Cheryl Abernathy, members of the Wayne County Genealogical Society.
You may sign up for Session 1: Getting Started; Session 2: Vital Records and U.S. Census Records; the Genealogy Lock-in beginning at 2:30; or any or all sessions. There is a separate registration for each event. You may register by contacting the Genealogy and Local History Room at 330-262-0916, ext. 4670 or by email: genealogy@wcpl.info. You may also self-register through the Wayne County Public Library’s event page.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Genealogy and Local History Room. Please pass along the information to other researchers who may be interested in attending. There is no charge for the day.
